The ID@Xbox Winter Game Demo Event is being billed as an alternative to catching up on your gaming backlog, providing a week’s worth of game demos for the Xbox One and Series X|S. Though it looks like it’s actually going to be two weeks, with an even larger follow-up planned as soon as this first batch of demos is finished. These aren’t your typical demos, either. They’re more like preview “show floor” builds, which act as an early look (extremely early in some cases), but also encourage feedback for the developers....

According to YouTube, this is part of an effort to create a respectful environment and curb harassment. Content creators will still be able to find the dislike count in YouTube Studio’s analytics and other metrics to understand how their video is doing. In March of this year, YouTube announced that it would experiment with the dislike button to see if removing it would better protect creators from harassment. The platform claims its research teams discovered groups of people would misuse the dislike button to target content creators as part of a coordinated assault....

Creators of the password manager said users can now use Touch ID, Windows Hello, and some Linux biometrics systems using the 1Password desktop app. 1Password said in its blog post announcing the updates that biometric support was its number one requested feature. The Verge noted that while biometric support has been available for Safari users, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge users did not have these biometric capabilities until now....

Google first introduced the world to Material You in May. In a somewhat vague (and saccharine) news post, Apple reminisces about the story of the original iPod through today’s iPod Touch and implies things are coming to an end. Or more specifically, Apple is indicating that iPod Touch production has halted, and what’s currently stocked is all that remains. “Music has always been part of our core at Apple, and bringing it to hundreds of millions of users in the way iPod did impacted more than just the music industry," said Apple’s senior VP of Worldwide Marketing, Greg Joswiak, in the announcement, “Today, the spirit of iPod lives on....

Apple released updates on Monday for its devices that patch flaws involving malicious web content. According to 9to5Mac, the web flaws could have led to the exploitation of “arbitrary code execution.” The first spotted flaw could have led to memory corruption, but Apple reportedly fixed it with “improved state management,” according to support documents from the company. A second flaw also was detected with the same malicious web content, which Apple resolved with “improved input validation....

Among the slew of announcements during this week’s 2021 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple said that extensions are coming to Safari browsers on mobile devices and tablets. The addition of extensions will allow users to customize their mobile browsing experience by adding password fillers, text translators, and other convenient apps. Safari will be the first mobile browser to offer extensions, beating out other browsers like Google Chrome. Right now, you can only download separate apps that act as extensions or use the few built-in ones like Safari’s popup blocker and Reader View, but this will be the first time extensions are built into a mobile browser....
